Rules to Rock By, a
new young-adult novel by
Josh Farrar, is slated to hit bookstores
June 22, 2010 courtesy of Walker Books for Young Readers. Making this musical adventure even more exciting is the
acceompanying soundtrack of the same name, which is a collaboration between the author and non-profit partner, the
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls.
To celebrate it’s release, there will be several exciting events for kids & parents alike! You can join us
June 23rd at
Housing Works (7pm) for an evening of readings & music; Josh Farrar will be reading excerpts from the novel, and the evening will also feature musical performances by young musicians
Justine Skyers and Sofie Kapur, The NowhereNauts (formerly Blame The Patient), and Saffire.
Special guests will include members of
Antony & The Johnsons and
Guided By Voices/Shudder To Think!
You can also join in the fun for a
matinee show at
3pm on June 26th at
The Living Room, featuring performances by
The NowhereNauts and
The Bungles, accompanied by another reading by Josh Farrar.
July 8th at 5:30pm also sees a listening party for the soundtrack at
Xoom, an East Village juice bar/smoothie shop with a rock & roll attitude. Hunter Lombard and Sofie Kapur of the Rules To Rock By band will be on hand to perform unplugged and sign CDs; this could also be your opportunity to get a book signed by Josh Farrar!
A little more about Rules To Rock By…
Rules To Rock By is the fun and inspiring tale of Annabelle Cabrerra’s quest to form her own band. Annabelle once had it all—a successful kid-rock group with an adoring fan base and the potential for serious stardom. But when her parents uproot her from her in-the-middle-of-it-all Brooklyn home and move her to Rhode Island, she feels lost. Starting a new band isn’t as easy as she’d hoped, but she is determined to chase her dreams, spurred on by her musical idol,
Deerhoof bassist/singer
Satomi Matsuzaki.
