Miami’s groove-heavy duo
Afrobeta is releasing their debut EP “
Do You Party?” today, so to celebrate, we have a live music video to share with you! Cameras caught Afrobeta’s dynamic performance of “
Play House,” the lead single from their upcoming full-length album, as they performed to a hometown crowd at 2010’s Ultra Music Festival.
Lead singer Cuci Amador commands the stage with undeniable swagger- combine that with Smurphio’s funky keytar lines, and you see why they’ve reached such massive heights of popularity in their hometown, prompting the Miami New Times to name them Best Band of 2010 in their annual Best of Miami poll.
“Do You Party?” contains funky synths, head-bopping basslines, and sassy lyrics with plenty of attitude. The EP includes tracks like the crowd-favorite lead single “Play House,” and the dark dance-pop tune “Two Different Worlds.” The band’s first full-length will see release this fall- stay tuned for details! Give us a shout if you’d like to request a copy of “Do You Party?”

BIO
Miami-based avant-dance duo Cuci Amador and Smurphio formed Afrobeta in 2006 as a means to attain an ultimate form of artistic self-expression. Their mutual love of classic songwriting, Cuban pastries and dancing till 5 am inspired them to make music together.
In just a short time, they have broken out with an undeniable sound that combines funky synths, head-bopping basslines, electro house, bilingual lyrics and plenty of attitude. Between 2006 and 2008, they continued to perform in front of a building fan base, garnering local support from the Miami New Times who named them Best Electronic Band in 2007, Best Local Songwriters in 2008 and Best Band in 2010.
The year 2009 became Afrobeta's most groundbreaking yet, as the band found themselves making headway in a number of different markets. They released “That Thing” and “Nighttime” on iTunes and unleashed a scorching caliente music video for “Nighttime.” They performed at the Trinumeral Festival in North Carolina and also snagged an early slot at the 11th annual Ultra Music Festival. Afrobeta also gained a MySpace Latino sponsorship, and landed a slot at the Latin Alternative Music Conference's Unsigned Artists Showcase. Finally, they were signed to Do IT
Now Afrobeta is taking their joyous beats and dazzling live shows across the nation and abroad! 2010 includes high profile performances at the 40th Anniversary Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, the 12th annual Ultra Music Festival, Burning Man, Ultra Brazil and Space Ibiza. Additionally, one of their tracks will make an appearance on the new "UMF Experience 2010" feature film, slated for worldwide release later this year.
Afrobeta, who pen all of their own songs and lyrics, released the EP Do You Party?, featuring the lead singles “Play House, “Do You Party?”, “Two Different Worlds” and “As Long As You Like”. Through their newly-formed deal with Do IT, Afrobeta will put forth a single with remixes (including slamming re-interpretations by surprise guest producers), a full-length album and additional singles with remixes after that. Recording of their debut LP began in 2009 and took place in four different locales, including the legendary South Beach Studios.
Individually, Smurphio (known for his frenetic fingers, booty basslines, and impressive towering mane) and Cuci (known for her sultry voice, swinging hips, and colorful plumage) each commands their own measures of exceptional talent. Smurphio was Pitbull’s touring keyboardist for a number of years until deciding to focus full-time on the Afrobeta project. Cuci, who is also an actress and performer, co-wrote and sang on the Calle 13 single "Electro Movimiento." The spunky chanteuse also guest-starred in the music video, which reached number 11 on the US Billboard Latin Rhythm chart and became nominated for Video Of The Year at the 2009 MTV Latin Video Music Awards. The tune becomes the hottest single off of the Calle 13 album Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo, which went on to win eight Grammy Awards at the 2009 Tenth Annual Latin Grammy's.
What is Afrobeta? Why don’t you see for yourself—online, on record, in their native habitat, the disco-lit stages and dance floors of Miami at night. Noted experts recommend at least three servings of Afrobeta a week. Don’t ignore the experts. Listen to Afrobeta. Get involved.
