Unicycle Loves You to Play Cake Shop on September 18th!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Unicycle Loves You will be playing at Cake Shop on September 18th, instead of Bruar Falls, as originally scheduled. No fret! They are very excited to play the legendary venue alongside The Shrubs and Wild Carnation. Unicycle Loves You has an amazing tour lining up, playing with bands like Ha Ha Tonka, the Royal Bangs and Weezer. Keep an eye out for an announcement tomorrow for them to be joining a certain DJ and his fuzzy, dance-happy crew on their tour!

Winning hearts with their brand of hazy surf rock and effervescent indie-pop invaded by alien bleeps, bloops and sci-fi synths, their live act has garnered rave reviews. Earning the “Must Hear” moniker from Spin, Filter and VenusZine for their performances, Unicycle Loves You has had The NY Press noting, “as great as their record is, they were even more impressive live.” The tour kicks off on September 11th at Schubas in their home-base of Chicago, celebrating the release of their much-anticipated sophomore release, Mirror, Mirror (Highwheel Records, Sept. 7th). Unicycle Loves You Bio

Just a little more than two years after their debut release, Unicycle Loves You are back with their next pop experiment, Mirror, Mirror. The album sees this former quintet stripped to its core trio and removed from the glossy studio setting. Jim Carroll whose solo home-recordings had inspired the bands initial formation, took on the roles of songwriter, recording engineer and producer in order to orchestrate a truly hand-crafted record.

Heavily influenced by cult horror films and science fiction, Mirror, Mirror manages to retain the playful energy the band is known for while putting the listener into some darker territory. From the opening moments of the introduction, the sound of scraping metal and a ghostly chorus hint at the mischievous world that hides behind the looking glass. Things are never quite as they seem however, and in an instant the band plunges into "Qugga" a glistening pop tune lead by bassist Nichole Vitale, who takes the reins on several tracks, including the single and title track "Mirror, Mirror" this time around.

The twists and turns of Mirror, Mirror continue along like a heartbeat and sprints off in a frenzy as the tone of each track shifts. The Gallop of "Justine" races into the fever of "Mountain Lungs" and then slinks down into summertime haziness of the title track. Carroll adds additional percussion and fluttering keys to further embellish upon each of these distinctive tunes, which result in a lush and haunting adventure.
